THE PLOT Manu and a friend I immediately spotted that one of the films he had taken was Julio Medem's excellent Sex and Lucía, but it was only recently that I realised another of the DVDs he lifted was Baise-Moi, and this became the catalyst for me to finally get writing. Based on a 1994 novel by Virginie Despentes, who worked as a prostitute after she was raped aged 17; co-director Coralie Trinh Thi was a porn actress, as were the film's two stars. Turns out the original French title literally means, “Rape Me.” And wouldn't you know it? I said, “I thought 'baise' was like 'besame' which means kiss me in Spanish.” He googled it.
